People are always surprised how much craft goes into a custom.
A good fantasy isn’t just a camera and a script. It’s sound, set, costume and character, all pulling in the same direction. Some of my favourite customs never show anything explicit at all. The whole thing lives in sound effects, a well dressed set, and my face telling you exactly what’s happening. Your imagination does the rest, and your imagination is always filthier than anything I could film.
I’ve played two characters in one video and cut between them. I’ve turned an ordinary ceiling into a very bad place to wake up. I’ve made props do sound effects they were never meant to make.
That’s what a custom is to me. A small film, made for one person, built exactly the way he pictured it.
